Juan Manuel Rodríguez returns to Las Palmas as caretaker manager after sacking

He comes back 14 years later and will be presented today at 15:00 at Barranco Seco.

Juan Manuel Rodríguez returns to the bench at UD Las Palmas as caretaker manager for a fourth spell, taking over after the sacking of Rubén de la Barrera. At 68, he steps in to tackle another urgent results situation.

Fourth stint on the bench

His first experience dates back to 2003-04, when he coached for 16 matches. The campaign saw three other managers in charge and ended with Las Palmas dropping to Segunda B. He returned in 2007-08, replacing Juanito in the 10th matchday as the team were bottom, and guided them to an eighth-place finish, before a brief second season run that lasted just 14 games.

His most recent spell started in 2010-11: he replaced Paco Jémez with Las Palmas in the relegation zone and, in 16 matches, delivered eight wins and four draws to secure survival. The following season ended with the team in ninth.

This time he arrives from the club’s academy setup. After last Sunday’s draw against Tenerife’s reserve team, Las Palmas Atlético sit in the relegation spots with five points from six games. The club has announced his interims appointment, and it’s possible he’ll take charge as soon as this Saturday’s match vs Castellón. His presentation is scheduled for today at 15:00 at Barranco Seco, according to MARCA.
