Juan Martínez Munuera emerges as another referee option for El Clásico
The Valencia referee could take charge of his sixth league game of the season and his fifth El Clásico, after recent Madrid wins.
Juan Martínez Munuera, the Valencia-based international referee, is being floated as a candidate to officiate El Clásico this Sunday, according to Mundo Deportivo. The CTA will confirm the match appointment on Saturday at midday.
Record with Barça and Madrid
With 12 years in LaLiga’s top flight and international status since January 1, 2015, Martínez Munuera is already set for six league matches this season. He has refereed both sides: Barcelona’s 1-3 win in Seville and Real Madrid’s 4-0 rout of Málaga.
Four prior Clásicos
It would be his fifth El Clásico. In the previous four, he recorded three Real Madrid wins and one for Barcelona. The most recent meeting was the January 2024 Spanish Super Cup, when Ancelotti’s side won 4-1. Before that, in the 2022-23 Copa del Rey (second leg), Real Madrid thrashed Barça 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
