Jude Bellingham returns for Real Madrid with a 4-assist, 1-goal statement
In the 0-7 win over Croatia with England, he delivered a standout: 1 goal and 3 assists, plus decisive moments in Spain’s 2-3 loss.
Jude Bellingham, of Real Madrid, came back with momentum: for England he racked up four assists, capped by a personal show in the 0-7 win over Croatia.
Alex Scott, from Bournemouth, didn’t hide his admiration after Bellingham’s first start. “In the field, Bellingham’s talent is terrifying and sets the level we should aim for,” he said, and added that he’s the best midfielder in the world. The impact was measurable. Against Croatia he contributed a goal and three assists, helping England pile up chances. Even in the 2-3 loss to Spain, Bellingham influenced key moments: he set up Gordon’s equaliser and drew the penalty that Kane sent off the post.
Role under Mourinho
José Mourinho has pushed for him to play where he can “decide” games. On 22 August, after the league opener vs Espanyol, he explained: “He has goals and must play in a position close to the goal.” One week later he added: “I agreed with him that I didn’t want to see Jude defending almost as a second left-back.” His positions have varied—central support in a 4-2-3-1 derby setup, and an inside role in a 4-3-3 vs Inter.
Real Madrid’s next challenge is to keep that standard for the return against Villarreal, with Bellingham expected to carry that offensive threat into the match.
