Jules Koundé gets no minutes again under Zidane
The 27-year-old Barça right back was an unused substitute in France’s last two matches: Belgium (0-1) and Italy (1-1).
Jules Koundé (Barcelona) keeps getting left out of the matchday minutes with France after Zinedine Zidane’s start: he was an unused substitute vs Belgium (0-1) and again in Italy (1-1).
Under Zidane, Koundé began well. He was named France’s fourth captain and started as the ‘2’ in the UEFA Nations League opener in Turkey, a 0-1 win.
But the following games changed the plan: Pierre Kalulu took over at right-back. At Barça, Koundé has only started against Rayo (5-2) and Feyenoord in the Champions League (5-1), after minutes that came following the nose fracture to Eric Garcia. Flick had already pointed to a possible shift toward central defense.
