Julián Álvarez ends his run with agent Fernando Hidalgo
The Atlético striker tells the club he won’t continue with Fernando Hidalgo and must pick a new representative after the Real Madrid derby.
Julián Álvarez, Atlético Madrid’s striker, has decided to end his ties with agent Fernando Hidalgo, according to El Club de Uría. The forward has already informed the club, which views the move positively and now expects him to appoint another representative.
Álvarez was a substitute in Atlético’s most recent match, the derby against Real Madrid, and the change comes after weeks of deliberation over his future with Hidalgo as his handler. Atlético has repeatedly said, both publicly and privately, that Álvarez was poorly advised in recent months—pointing mainly to Hidalgo, and also to Barcelona, for complicating the situation around his next steps.
A new agency path
During the World Cup, Álvarez also said in a mixed zone that he wanted to “fulfil a dream” and leave Atlético—something that didn’t sit well in Argentina. In the club’s view, the agent switch is a step toward admitting things were not handled the best way, but the priority now is for him to get back to his top form.
