Julian Schuster’s Freiburg host Bayern after a tough double loss

SC Freiburg, guided by Julian Schuster, welcome Bayern München this Sunday at 17:30 at Europa-Park Stadion for the Bundesliga’s 7th matchday, with plenty of urgency after two straight defeats.

Games that swing

Last season’s meetings had plenty of twists. In both fixtures against Vincent Kompany’s side, the scoreboard showed 2-0 for the Sport-Club at one point. In the home game, Bayern turned it around after the break to win 2-6; in the return match, Lennart Karl sealed Freiburg’s loss with a strike from the backfield in the 9th minute of stoppage time.

Fixing the defensive details

Ahead of the trip to the league leader, Freiburg suffered a narrow, unfortunate loss at Bayer Leverkusen and also left Monaco without points. Schuster summed it up: “Leider haben wir die beiden Spiele verloren. In Leverkusen war die Leistung besser als gegen Monaco. Insgesamt haben wir es nicht geschafft, uns in den beiden Spielen ein besseres Gefühl für Sonntag zu geben”.

He’s especially frustrated by how the goals conceded came about, and believes there are things to improve immediately: “Das müssen wir schleunigst abstellen und gegen die Bayern besser machen”. He also flags a potential absence, saying Yannik Engelhardt might not be available after being taken off early in Monaco.
