Julien Escudé says Sevilla have a chance at the Bernabéu

The French ex-defender, recalling Sevilla’s LaLiga win in Madrid, believes García Plaza’s side can compete vs a Real Madrid yet to take off.

Julien Escudé, former Sevilla centre-back, recalls the last time his side won a LaLiga game at the Santiago Bernabéu and believes Sevilla “has reasons” to take on Real Madrid again. On ‘Sólo el Sevilla’, he underlined what’s needed away from home: “mental and physical collective solidity”.

Escudé credits García Plaza’s start for being “quite positive” after years of hardship, and cites Sevilla’s match against Barcelona at the Sánchez-Pizjuán as proof of the team’s “competitive spirit”. He also flags that the Madrid side, with a new coach and new players to fit into the model, remains “a threat” at home, where it “barely drops points”, but he still sees a window: “Real Madrid have gone several seasons without winning trophies.”

He insists Sevilla must be “compact, intense, committed and hard to break down”, plus “effective” up front, and argues this squad was built “not to suffer”. Escudé’s headline priority is “defensive solidity” from goalkeeper and centre-backs. On individuals, he praised Kike Salas and Castrín, and said Stassin is a “warrior”, “powerful and battling” striker.
