Junior Firpo returns to Seville for medical exams with Real Betis

The full-back left the pitch with injury worries against Haiti after 10 minutes and will be assessed by Betis doctors.

Junior Firpo has returned to Seville earlier than planned to be checked by the medical staff of Real Betis. The Hispano-Dominican full-back had to leave the Republic of the Dominican match against Haiti after just ten minutes, feeling a strong pull.

As he explained, he already had discomfort from the previous international game versus Trinidad and Tobago and said he felt “a stretch that was a bit stronger than it should have been”. Tests will now define whether it’s a muscular injury and, if so, the expected recovery timeline.

From international duty to the treatment room

The medical exams will clarify the scope of the problem. The Dominican team also left him out of their last game, a 1-2 win over Nicaragua.

Junior also took aim at the revamped international schedule: “I didn’t really understand why they changed the break… playing four matches in eleven days.” If the injury keeps him sidelined, Fran García would be the only left-back specialist available for Manuel Pellegrini, during a demanding stretch for Betis with nine matches in 28 days across LaLiga EA Sports, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.
