Kirian, Las Palmas captain: “I understand the criticism”
The midfielder backs self-criticism after fans protested, urging frustration to be directed at each player to improve.
Kirian, the captain of UD Las Palmas, addressed the media from the dressing room as the team goes through a tough spell. He said fan anger is understandable: “It makes sense to protest the result and the way we played. I understand the criticism because if I were in the stands, I’d be the first to do it.”
The midfielder also calls for focus on self-improvement rather than pointing fingers. “I’m very much in favor of not blaming anyone. First things are fixed internally, with yourself,” he said, adding that every player should identify what they’re getting wrong to improve and help the team.
Kirian linked the need for calm to protecting younger teammates. “Many of my colleagues haven’t lived this situation at the club. Give them peace of mind… and try to work so that the win comes,” he said. He even reflected on his own game, admitting he performs better when things are structured: “In the chaos it’s harder for me… I lose balls.” He also described the new coach, whom he knows well after “12 years,” stressing he wants the team to play more through the center.
