Lamine Yamal eyes Mbappé’s mark: one goal from 13 in UCL
With 12 goals in Europe’s top competition, Yamal is one strike away from matching Mbappé’s 13 before turning 20
Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) is one goal away from matching Mbappé (Real Madrid) in the Champions League race: the winger has 12 goals and 11 assists in 34 European matches, including a strike against Feyenoord on matchday one of the league phase.
The benchmark for Yamal is precocity. He reached 11 goals before his 19th birthday, surpassing the 10 Mbappé scored at the same age. Mbappé set the 13-goal standard before turning 20.
Yamal’s UCL résumé is packed with milestones: he debuted at 16 against Antwerp, became the youngest player to start in the tournament against FC Porto (leaving that match due to an indisposition), and later became the youngest to both score and assist in a tie versus Benfica in the 2024-2025 season. In April 2025, he was also the youngest to score in a semifinal, against Inter Milan.
As Mundo Deportivo points out, the “10” has his focus on the next game versus Galatasaray this Tuesday.
