Laporte’s red complicates Athletic’s derby vs Real Sociedad

Athletic defender Laporte was shown a straight red against Levante, putting the club’s derby vs Real Sociedad on Nov. 1 in doubt. The match at the Athletic side turned after his expulsion, after a clash with Requena where he was judged to be the last man.
In the press room, coach Eduardo Terzic said, “The sending off was crucial for the game.” Athletic are considering filing appeals before Competición rules, after Laporte insisted he had not committed an offence.
A direct red carries a ban ranging from 1 to 3 games. If the lower end applies, Laporte would still miss the league game this Sunday vs Getafe at San Mamés. The squad depth is better than usual with Yeray and Paredes available, while Vivian has been back in training for weeks following recovery from an injury dating to last season.
