Lens face UEFA sanction after supporter trouble in Bruges-Lens
The 3-0 defeat in Belgium puts Les Sang et Or at risk of UEFA disciplinary action over fan incidents on matchday three.
RC Lens are in the UEFA spotlight after incidents involving the club’s supporters during Brugge-Lens on Wednesday, in matchday three of the Champions League league phase. The game finished 3-0 in favour of Club Brugge, and UEFA is set to open disciplinary proceedings.
Game halted over smoke
As RMC Sport reports, the match was briefly interrupted around the half-hour mark due to flares thrown onto the pitch from the away end. UEFA officials noted the events in their match reports, and the game had been flagged as a high-risk fixture by Belgian authorities.
Possible bans, plus probation
UEFA could hand Lens a financial punishment and even a suspension of the away section. The potential severity is also shaped by the club’s probation period: Lens were already on trial for flares lit during their trip to Slavia Prague on the first matchday of the competition.
The knockout stage begins in February, with the second round of the group-to-knockout playoff (16-17 and 23-24 February). The final is scheduled for 5 June 2027 at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid.
