Lens lose 3-0 at Club Brugge as Udol targets at least 10 points

Lens suffered a 3-0 loss at Club Brugge KV on Wednesday, in the third matchday of the regular Champions League phase. The visitors were not sharp enough in front of goal and paid for it as Brugge scored three: Hans Vanaken made it 1-0 from a corner in the 45+3rd minute.

Matthieu Udol, Lens captain, pointed to missed chances: “Je ne sais pas si c’est cruel mais c’est très sévère en tout cas, surtout au vu de notre première période”. He added that they had control in the first half and needed to “être tueur dans la surface”, because they “auraient pu en mettre au moins deux” before the break, but they were punished on their opponents’ first real opportunity.

Champions still possible

Joaquín Seys doubled the lead in the 50th minute and Carlos Forbs completed the scoring in the 72nd. Udol linked it to Lens’ previous European match, a 0-2 loss to Sporting, saying they concede too many goals to pick up points. Even so, he set the aim: “L'objectif est d'aller chercher au moins 10 points pour se qualifier pour les barrages”.

Michaël Cuisance echoed the frustration while keeping faith: “Il y a toujours de l'espoir quand il y a des matchs à jouer”. Next up, Lens returns to Bollaert to host Côme, with league action this Saturday against Paris FC, before more Champions League tests.
