Lisandro Martínez clarifies his outburst after Atlético loss (2-0)
The Manchester United defender responded on Instagram to his comments following Tuesday’s Champions League defeat in Madrid.
Lisandro Martínez, a Manchester United defender, clarified his outburst in an Instagram statement after the Atlético Madrid defeat in the Champions League (2-0). The anger came right after the match in Madrid, when the Argentina international criticised the lack of summer investment in the squad, said he expected more “from upstairs”, and singled out technical director Jason Wilcox.
In his post released on Wednesday night, Martínez said he spoke “out of anger and frustration” at not getting the result they wanted. He added that those who know him understand how he lives football—“with passion, commitment and a huge desire to win”—and stressed his words reflect how much he wants the club to compete for the biggest honours.
