Lisandro Martínez’s Man United future in doubt after public outburst

His contract expires next summer, with Man United able to extend it by one year after his comments about the club’s hierarchy.

Lisandro Martínez’s future at Manchester United is in doubt after he publicly criticised the club’s hierarchy. The Argentine defender’s contract runs out next summer, and the club holds an option to extend his stay for a further year.

Sky Sports reports that Martínez said he expected more from the summer transfer window. He also took aim at the technical director, Jason Wilcox, saying: «I expect more from our technical director… We expect more from the top, from upstairs, to bring in more players to compete».

Internal fallout

There is said to be anger and disbelief about his comments, both in the boardroom and in the dressing room, with at least one other player challenging him as the squad got on the plane back to Manchester.

United are now focusing on revamping their defence in upcoming transfer windows and are also looking at new centre-backs as well as left-backs.
