Liverpool greets Manchester City with “cheats” chants after Premier verdict

The Anfield clash came right after the City were found guilty of 114 of 115 Premier charges, with an appeal still ongoing.

Anfield set the tone for a hostile welcome of Manchester City following the Premier verdict: the club was ruled guilty on 114 out of 115 charges, even as it appeals the case.

Before kick-off in Merseyside, Liverpool supporters hit back with banners and chants accusing the visitors of “cheats”. There were also references to Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola dressed as “prisoners”, plus wordplay around Oasis’ “Wonderwall”, including signs with “And after all you really robbed us all”.

When the teams came out, the “cheats” chant was heard repeatedly. The article says the home end feel disadvantaged and believe they would have had an extra title if the alleged irregularities had not occurred, while City awaits whether any sporting punishment follows.

Mundo Deportivo adds that Anfield “passed judgement” off the pitch, and in strictly sporting terms Maresca’s men came out on top.
