Liverpool set for a fiery welcome for Manchester City at Anfield

This Sunday (17:30), City play at Anfield for the first time after a guilty verdict: Liverpool fans are calling for flags and flares.

On Sunday, Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League in what will be City’s first match since the financial irregularities verdict, with kick-off at 17:30.

Liverpool supporters are organizing what they describe as an especially hostile welcome in a nearby street used by local buses and visiting fans. They have asked attendees to bring flags, banners and flares to create a “red tide”. Pablo Planas put it this way: “No tiene buena pinta lo del Manchester City, pero pase lo que pase los títulos no nos los pueden quitar”.

City were found guilty in 114 cases covering 2009 to 2018, with €1,000 million reportedly involved. The club has appealed the independent commission’s decision, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks, with sanctions possible before the end of the season.
