Lucas Hernández shines for PSG vs Barça and scores the 2-1
With Nuno Mendes injured, the PSG left-back impresses in Champions and celebrates his return with a goal at 72’.
Lucas Hernández, of Paris Saint-Germain, started “by surprise” this Tuesday in the Champions League clash against Barça, delivering a standout performance and scoring the 2-1 in the 72nd minute via a header from a corner. The context mattered: Nuno Mendes was sidelined with an injury, and Luis Enrique entrusted the left-back role to the Frenchman.
Hernández’s main job was to contain Lamine Yamal, and he repeatedly pushed beyond his usual duties to quiet the youngster. He told Canal+ after the final whistle: “J’essaie toujours de donner mon maximum sur le terrain… Il y a cette envie de tout donner… Je n’ai jamais perdu ça. Aujourd’hui, ça a payé.”
He also said he’s not used to scoring many goals, though he believes the team showed it is “a very good side” and that they must keep going. Luis Enrique praised him too: “Il est agressif et il ne fait pas de faute ridicule… Il a joué un match incroyable contre l’un des meilleurs joueurs du monde,” he said on Canal+.
