Luis Enrique (PSG) explains his method: fewer orders, more understanding

After PSG’s 3-1 win over Le Mans, the coach spoke on PSG TV before a Champions League trip to Manchester City.

Luis Enrique, head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, laid out his approach to managing the squad in an interview aired on PSG TV: he says he doesn’t want to be a manager who “constantly gives orders” and instead wants players to “understand the game” so they can make the best decision at every moment. The Spaniard, who has been at the club since the summer of 2023, also touched on his relationship with the supporters and how he tailors communication.

Following three Ligue 1 matchdays without a win, PSG recovered momentum and secured their third consecutive victory last Saturday with a 3-1 win at Le Mans, played at the Parc des Princes. With Manchester City next up for the second matchday of the Champions League league phase, Luis Enrique stressed that “it’s not only the coach who decides everything” and that the group moves forward “together”.

“I like being able to help players, but also challenge them,” he added, saying he varies the message depending on the moment: some need encouragement, others need a more demanding approach—aiming to see how they respond to what he says.
