Luis Suárez drives Sporting’s comeback at Braga (2-3)
Sporting fell behind at Braga, but came back to win 2-3 in Primeira Liga’s eighth round with Suárez and Zalazar.
Luis Suárez, Sporting powered his side’s comeback in Braga, finishing with a 2-3 win in the eighth round of the Primeira Liga.
The match got off badly for Sporting. In the 41st minute, Braga took the lead via an own goal by Sporting goalkeeper Rui Silva, a former Betis player. After half-time, with Braga more in control early in the second period, Sporting turned to Suárez along with Maxi Araújo and Rodrigo Zalazar, who started the game on the bench after recent international duty.
The breakthrough came at 66': Suárez headed in for 1-1, extending a run of seven straight matches scoring. He now has seven league goals, one behind top scorer Vangelis Pavlidis.
Braga paid late
- At 71', the 1-2 also came via another own goal after Zalazar’s work.
- Suárez attacked from the right and, with a low cross, saw Braga keeper Bernardo Fontes produce the second own goal of the night.
- Zalazar sealed the 1-3 at 82' by cutting in from his own half and scoring, but he was replaced after feeling muscle discomfort.
With the win, Sporting return to winning ways and move up to second place on 18 points.
