Man City faces historic sanctions after 114 of 115 charges ruled proven
The Independent Commission finds 114 of 115 charges against Man City, with the case still open while the club has until this Friday to respond.
Manchester City could face historic sanctions after the Independent Commission ruled that the club committed 114 out of 115 alleged breaches. The process is not finished yet: the club has until this Friday to submit its arguments.
The case focuses on sponsorships deemed illegal and on a structure designed to show as commercial income amounts that in reality came from Abu Dhabi United Group, the owners. According to the report, the alleged fraud totals around €900 million, money that helped fund the squad built for recent seasons.
The English FA issued its stance in a statement ahead of England’s Nations League match against Croatia. “The decision of the Independent Commission has important implications for the integrity of the game. We are carefully analysing the decision and its consequences, and will take the appropriate measures. Given that the process between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club is still ongoing, we will not make further comment for now. However, we will continue to closely monitor the evolution of the situation,” the FA said, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
