Man City takes another hit: OKX, sponsor, fined £400m
OKX, a City sponsor since 2022, was hit with a £400m fine over alleged anti-money-laundering breaches in the US.
Manchester City has suffered another institutional blow: its sponsor OKX was fined £400 million (about €471m) after breaching US anti-money-laundering laws, Mundo Deportivo reports.
The case lands after the wider investigation around 114 charges of financial irregularities spanning 2009-10 to 2017-18, with the club awaiting a punishment that could be “historic”.
OKX, which shows up on City training wear, is led by Chinese billionaire Mingxing “Star” Xu. Mundo Deportivo adds that a New York court imposed the fine after finding the platform helped facilitate suspicious transactions and funds linked to wrongdoing, totaling more than $5 billion.
City’s next game
This Sunday, City returns to action after the news breaks: they travel to Anfield to play Liverpool (17:30), where, the outlet says, they were set to have OKX’s logo on the sleeve.
