Manchester City: Premier League clubs seek legal advice on compensation

Premier League clubs have sought legal advice over whether they could bring a compensation claim against Manchester City following the 115 charges case.

The move comes after City were found guilty of most of the financial rule breaches they faced. Before the outcome was reported, multiple sides had already started checking whether the admitted breaches could translate into claims for financial losses. Other clubs were formally informed about the independent panel’s decision, with a group of directors told by email and required to sign a non-disclosure agreement before they could read the document, a source told BBC Sport.

While the punishment decided by the panel is expected to be released before any appeal is completed, the full picture may still take time. A sanctions hearing could be months away, and the result may not be published until after City’s appeal concludes.

City deny wrongdoing. In a statement, the club said “the Premier League process remains ongoing” with significant elements still to be completed and that it is subject to strict confidentiality.

The wider context includes a previous ruling: in June, Everton were told they must pay Burnley £35m after a three-year PSR breach. Everton have appealed, setting a relevant backdrop for what could happen in the City case.
