Manu Fajardo cools talk of Pellegrini extension at Real Betis

The Betis sporting director says there’s no push to extend Pellegrini right now and links the plan to the club’s need for plusvalías.

Manu Fajardo, Real Betis sporting director, has made it clear that talk of extending Manuel Pellegrini is “frozen” and that, for now, it is “not on the table.” The Chilean’s contract ends at the conclusion of the current season, and Fajardo added that other key players are also set to finish in 2027.

Plusvalías and the club model

In the same interview with Onda Cero, Fajardo tied the timeline to the club’s economic model: “we are obliged to generate plusvalías” in order to keep building ambitious squads.

He singled out Troy Parrott, whose fast start could attract attention: “I hope Troy Parrott in January—or other players—will catch the eye of big clubs.” Fajardo also pointed to Parrott’s impact early on, highlighting his two goals in his first matches.

European opener and next fixtures

He also praised Betis’ European debut with a win over Lille and said the team is eager for the next two home games against Oporto and Feyenoord.
