Marc-André Ter Stegen drops to the bench: Nübel starts vs Greece

Marc-André Ter Stegen, Barcelona’s goalkeeper, will not start and will sit on the bench as Germany take on Greece tomorrow. Jürgen Klopp will instead go with Alexander Nübel, the coach confirmed after the first Nations League game, where Ter Stegen did play: Germany drew 1-1 with the Netherlands.

Klopp said the switch wasn’t about Ter Stegen’s level. “I’m very, very pleased with his performance,” the Germany coach said. He also praised Karim Adeyemi: despite the chances missed against the Netherlands, Klopp argued the forward is still “very young” and “needs to develop,” though he has “room to grow.” He highlighted Adeyemi’s pace as a key weapon, adding that when he runs onto the ball he keeps the “freedom to choose” between the right and the left.
