Marc Cucurella booed by Leipzig fans after entering vs Real Madrid
He came on at the 70th minute in Real Madrid–Leipzig (4-1): cheered at the Bernabéu, but booed by Leipzig supporters.
Marc Cucurella, Real Madrid’s full-back, came on at the 70th minute in the match against RB Leipzig, which finished 4-1 at the Bernabéu. He replaced Carreras, received loud applause from the home crowd, but also took a strong round of boos from Leipzig supporters.
The reason goes back to Euro 2024, held in Germany. In the quarterfinal, Spain beat Germany 2-1, and the Germans claimed a handball by Cucurella inside the box during an incident involving Toni Kroos’ shot. The referee did not point to a penalty, a decision that infuriated Leipzig’s side of the stands.
As Mundo Deportivo notes, that old grievance carried into this game and the Bernabéu answered with applause whenever Cucurella got involved.
