Mariona Caldentey and Arsenal hit by Holmberg ankle after 4-2 vs Man City
Arsenal sit 10th in the WSL with 5 points; they lost 4-2 to Manchester City and Smilla Holmberg is a doubt for Sweden.
Arsenal Women, with Mariona Caldentey in their squad, are struggling early in the WSL: they are 10th with 5 points from 15 and lost 4-2 to the league leaders, Manchester City, on Sunday. Their only win came against Brighton, with two draws in between.
An ankle scare
On top of the results, Sweden’s camp has an injury concern. Smilla Holmberg injured her ankle during training with the national team, twisted her foot in the session, and did not train with the rest of her teammates this Wednesday. Sweden’s second coach, Niclas Egnell, said she is at the hotel undergoing rehabilitation and treatment and that her availability will depend on how she progresses.
Sweden’s play-off vs Lithuania
Sweden must navigate a qualifying play-off. The first leg is this Friday in Lithuania, with the return as a away match on Tuesday. If they advance, they will face either Scotland or the Czech Republic for a place at the 2027 World Cup, according to Mundo Deportivo.
