Matt Donohue set to return as Premier League VAR after Haaland error
Matt Donohue returns as assistant VAR for Coventry vs Fulham after the VAR mistake in the United-Man City derby.
VAR Matt Donohue has been reinstated for a return to Premier League duties after the incorrect call that awarded Erling Haaland’s winner in the Manchester derby against Manchester United. As Sky Sports reports, Donohue and assistant Blake Antrobus failed to spot that Enzo Fernández was offside and interfering with play.
Donohue has not appeared in any of the three match rounds since the incident on September 13, while Antrobus made his first appearance back as an assistant referee for Newcastle in their home game versus Aston Villa last Saturday. Howard Webb later described “tunnel vision”, arguing the team around him should have helped steer him out of it.
His Premier League return will come as assistant VAR when Coventry host Fulham this Saturday.
