Matteo Darmian signs for Bologna as a free agent, bringing World Cup experience back to Serie A
Bologna make Darmian’s move official: he arrives free from Inter, ending Serie A’s early-season shortage of Italian World Cup veterans.
Bologna have made Matteo Darmian’s move official this Thursday. The 36-year-old arrives on a free transfer after his contract ended last season with Inter Milan, and his presence means Serie A is back to having at least one Italian with World Cup experience early in the campaign.
Darmian was part of the 2014 Brazil World Cup squad. Italy’s run ended in the group stage, and he played all three matches against England, Costa Rica and Uruguay. The signing also fills the gap created after Mattia Perin (33) left for Palermo this summer, following his spell at Juventus, and after Darmian’s own chapter with Inter came to an end. As Mundo Deportivo reports, Darmian has agreed a deal until June 2027 after trialling with Bologna since September 30.
