Matthias Jaissle under pressure as Newcastle head to Crystal Palace
Newcastle have lost 3 of their last 4 Premier League games and go to Crystal Palace with everything on the line.
Matthias Jaissle is under mounting pressure at Newcastle after the club lost three of their last four Premier League matches, dropping to 11th. With Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace looming, the manager knows the result is crucial.
Sky Sports News points to troubling underlying stats too, with Newcastle struggling to defend shots and expected goals (xG) conceded.
Jaissle’s plan is based on a more “vertical” approach, but the Premier League is punishing as he tries to shape a team that matches his identity. The piece also highlights how the squad has been used in ways that don’t fully fit the coach’s preferred setup, including Yoane Wissa operating as a No 10.
