Mbappé fires back with irony over a possible Real rift and the Ballon d’Or
The Frenchman replied on Instagram after the derby amid claims the Real didn’t campaign for him for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Kylian Mbappé, of Real Madrid, replied with sarcasm to criticism tied to the 2026 Ballon d’Or and to talk of a possible “rift” with his club. As Javier Tinto of Radio Marca put it, Mbappé would have asked the Real to step up and campaign for him “the week of the derby”, but the club didn’t go along.
That dates back to the 2-1 loss to Atlético Madrid, when Real received a red card in the 52nd minute. Mbappé also had to leave early after injuring his knee. Tinto added that Mbappé made a similar request to Zinédine Zidane.
Irony on Instagram
About three hours after the video went up, Mbappé commented: “ouais bah oui et aussi je me suis embrouillé avec ma grande tante aussi”, along with laughing-crying emojis. The response follows an Instagram story on Sunday featuring lines from Michel Fugain’s “Les gentils, les Méchants”.
