Mbappé remains injured as Real Madrid train for Villarreal without him

Real Madrid play Villarreal on Saturday (21:00) without Mbappé due to a left knee injury; his Tuesday check decides his availability.

Real Madrid begin the week’s training preparing for Saturday’s match against Villarreal without Kylian Mbappé. This Monday he was still not part of the session, with the club stating that his recovery process continues, alongside Raúl Asencio, Ibrahima Konaté, Ferland Mendy, Fede Valverde and Rodrygo Goes.

Left knee under assessment

Mbappé is recovering from a posterior capsule hyperextension in his left knee suffered during the international break with France. He returned to Madrid on September 26 for medical tests; the initial timeline estimated recovery between ten and twelve days. After sharing social media images of himself riding a bike, he drew criticism, following José Mourinho’s comments from September 25 on the ‘Bet It Drive Show’ podcast, warning that a fall could make him miss “maybe three matches” or risk a more serious injury.

Mbappé landed at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas this Monday at 11:15, while training had started at 10:30 at the Ciudad Real Madrid. He is due at Valdebebas this Tuesday, where his progress will determine whether he can join team work or stays on individualized exercises. Mbappé has four sessions before the Villarreal game at the Santiago Bernabéu, and his availability will depend on how his knee responds over the next few days, according to Mundo Deportivo.
