Michael Carrick’s Manchester United hit rock bottom with seven winless

After a 4-1 Champions League loss to Como, Carrick’s side have gone seven matches without a win across all competitions.

Michael Carrick is dealing with the toughest stretch since the Manchester United confirmed he would stay on as head coach. Five months on, the mood is far from celebration after the team were thumped 4-1 by Como in the Champions League and are now winless in seven games across all competitions.

As Sky Sports reports, Carrick called the defeat “angry” in his own words. The result also exposed fractures inside the squad, with captain Bruno Fernandes openly questioning the tactical approach.

Where it has gone wrong

The current collapse contrasts with the run at the end of last season that convinced United to back Carrick on a deal running to 2028. Yet the European hammering quickly fed into an even worse league start, described as United’s worst-ever beginning to a Premier League campaign.

The criticism didn’t stop there. Last week Lisandro Martínez targeted the hierarchy, while earlier this week attention turned to the summer squad work and the role of technical director Jason Wilcox. United spent £163m in the transfer window, but the anger in the dressing room kept growing.
