Michael Carrick stays in charge at Man United as replacements are eyed

Carrick will lead Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth while the club searches for possible candidates after the 4-1 Como loss.

Michael Carrick is expected to remain in charge of Manchester United for Sunday’s match against Bournemouth, but the club has already started looking at possible replacements, according to BBC Sport. For now, Carrick is understood to have not been told of any imminent change after Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como.

Inside the club, concern is growing both about the frequent managerial turnover in recent years and about underperformance from players. After the Como loss, captain Bruno Fernandes questioned Carrick’s tactics. Lisandro Martínez also added fuel from the dressing room, criticising recruitment.

Names being considered

The potential shortlist includes Eddie Howe, who is thought to be open to returning to management with United after leaving Newcastle in the close season. Antonio Conte and Julian Nagelsmann are also interested, while Unai Emery and Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler have strong reputations internally—though pulling them away would be difficult.

On the pitch, the numbers are grim: United have won just twice in 11 games and have none in seven, their worst run since 2015-16. The team has a midweek ahead after their EFL Cup defeat by Brighton, and United still need to confirm arrangements for Friday’s planned news conference ahead of Bournemouth.
