Mikel Arteta: Arsenal criticism is just a “very small minority”

Arsenal are 10 wins from 11, but have only 11 goals in seven league games and still no set-piece strikes.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta brushed off complaints about the team’s style, saying the criticism comes from a “very small minority”. The Gunners have won 10 of 11 matches this season, but they’re not scoring freely and often struggle when opponents defend deep.

On Sunday, they needed an 80th-minute winner: substitute Noni Madueke got the goal to edge past Nottingham Forest. It was only their 11th goal in seven Premier League games so far, and the club has yet to score from a set piece this campaign in any competition.

Arteta said games against low blocks demand a different approach. “The low block demands a different kind of game to the high block,” he explained ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. David Raya also played down the debate, saying the team’s record speaks for itself after Arsenal lost just once in 11 games.
