Mohamed Belloumi strikes late as Hull rescue a point vs Everton
Hull stayed unbeaten at home since returning to the Premier League; Brennan Johnson was denied by VAR as the game finished 2-2.
Hull earned a point at the MKM Stadium in an entertaining 2-2 draw against Everton. Mohamed Belloumi made it level with a left-footed finish in the 74th minute, after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall restored parity following Joe Gelhardt’s lead.
VAR denies Johnson, then goals fly
Brennan Johnson put Everton ahead on 34 minutes, but the strike was ruled out after a VAR check that judged it offside, denying him a first Premier League goal. Hull then took control early in the second half: Gelhardt scored in the 48th minute after Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ mistake.
Dewsbury-Hall equalised seven minutes later (55’). Thierno Barry, who had squandered chances earlier, put Everton back in front midway through the second period, but Hull responded immediately. Elliot Stroud and Belloumi linked up, and Belloumi fired past Jordan Pickford to secure the point.
Everton manager David Moyes said his squad “underperformed” and was frustrated not to leave with three points, calling it “very, very poor” defending, especially after going 2-1 up.
