Mourinho: no Real Madrid player is untouchable, Vinicius starts vs Leipzig
Vinicius Junior is suspended for three LaLiga games, but Mourinho confirmed he will start against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
José Mourinho, at Real Madrid, made it clear that no player is untouchable and that selection comes down to performance. Asked about Vinícius Junior’s role in the attack, the Portuguese coach said the only “untouchable” thing is the club crest.
Ahead of the Real Madrid–RB Leipzig Champions League match (21:00), Mourinho pointed to the situation around Vinícius: he is suspended for the next three LaLiga fixtures and the coach also referenced the pressure from the rising talent Yan Diomandé.
Vinicius confirmed to start
Mourinho confirmed that Vinícius Junior will be in the starting XI this Wednesday against Leipzig. He did not specify whether it would be in place of Diomandé, who returns to his former club.
The manager added that Vinícius is a left winger and that, depending on the match plan, he could be used in other roles, even if his main position is that one. He also acknowledged the team still needs “many things” to be where he wants it to be, insisting he’s open to analysis and solutions. With two wins from two games in the Champions League, Real Madrid will aim to keep the perfect record before fully turning to the Clásico against Barcelona this Sunday.
