Nagelsmann tipped as top option if Man United sack Carrick
Carrick is under intense pressure after a 4-1 Champions loss to Côme; the trip to Bournemouth this Sunday could decide his fate.
Manchester United are reportedly weighing a coaching change for Michael Carrick after a run of seven matches without a win and the 4-1 defeat at Côme on Wednesday in the Champions League. With just two victories across all competitions so far this season, the home game vs Bournemouth this Sunday is framed as a crucial test, especially after Bruno Fernandes openly criticized the team’s tactical choices.
A bench shake-up
As reported by RMC Sport, English outlets say the club would begin seriously assessing options if Carrick is dismissed. In that case, Julian Nagelsmann is one of the names leading the race: The Telegraph adds that the 39-year-old, a former Germany coach and ex-Bayern boss, is said to be open to a proposal and has shown interest in working in the Premier League.
Nagelsmann also benefits from a familiar internal link through Christophe Vivell, United’s recruitment director, whom he worked with at Leipzig in 2021-2022. Other names mentioned include Antonio Conte and Fabian Hürzeler, but Hürzeler is not expected to be interested in leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, and Conte would not match the structure United wants. A sacking would be the third managerial change in three years.
