Nico Schlotterbeck out with ankle injury: Klopp’s Germany hit again

Jürgen Klopp’s start as Germany coach has taken another hit: Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund) twisted his right ankle during the opening of training in Herzogenaurach. The defender was immediately sent for a scan, and the DFB is now awaiting the results.

This is the second ankle problem for Schlotterbeck this year. He suffered a similar issue at the World Cup, during the group-stage match against Côte d’Ivoire (2-1 for Germany), and didn’t return until the third Bundesliga matchday, against Paderborn (3-0 for Dortmund).

With Klopp’s Germany already carrying the 1-1 draw vs the Netherlands and the 0-1 loss to Greece, Schlotterbeck had been one of the six players named in both call-ups and was pushing for a start against Serbia on Thursday at the Allianz Arena. In this international window, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz have also already left the camp.
