Nicolas Jackson fires as Aston Villa beat Fenerbahce 6-0 in the Champions League
Aston Villa recorded their biggest European win ever with a 6-0 at Villa Park. Jackson bagged a first-half double.
Nicolas Jackson struck a first-half double as Aston Villa hammered Fenerbahçe 6-0 in the Champions League, sealing their biggest European victory in club history and their first win at Villa Park this season.
Under Unai Emery, Villa ran riot before half-time with three goals and added gloss afterward: Ross Barkley scored twice and Tammy Abraham finished late. Emery said the rebuilt North Stand had weighed on them after three home games without a win, but insisted the team showed no signs of struggling against the Turkish visitors.
Jackson, the club’s record £65m signing from Chelsea, had the only missing piece in the night: a potential hat-trick. Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: "I wanted to take it but the most important thing is we win. Hopefully next time I’ll get the hat-trick". Barkley converted the pre-arranged penalty instead.
The win leaves Villa well placed for the knockout phase, and Jackson’s tally now stands at four goals in three matches and five for the season as attention turns to Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.
