Oviedo and Sporting reignite the Asturian derby at the Tartiere

After a one-year break, the Asturian derby returns tonight at the Carlos Tartiere with Real Oviedo hosting Sporting Gijon (21:00, Movistar LaLiga). It arrives very early in the campaign—just six matchdays played so far.

Oviedo want to clear lingering doubts from an uneven start, sitting on eight points from six games, after dropping points in Sabadell. The club also targets ending a run of five local derbies without a win.

Absences and tactical tweaks

Calero’s main headache is the injury list: Estanis Pedrola and Ișfan will miss the derby. With Carlos Fernández also out, Chris Ramos is expected to lead the line as the “9”, while Víctor Mingo could see minutes. Defensively, Jiménez has chances to start at right-back after what happened at Sabadell, with Carlos Domínguez and Dani Calvo likely in the center.

On Sporting’s side, Larcamón also has confirmed absences: Konrad and Bruno are out. The coach is considering a slight shift with two more fixed forward options, with Casas tipped to start, aiming for man-to-man pressure. Gelabert would move to the right wing, with Cuenca on the left.

The derby referee will be Valencian official Andrés Fuentes, who has taken charge in 88 Second Division matches, as announced by the Technical Referees Committee.
