Pablo Barrios returns to Atlético: ready for Alavés on Saturday
The midfielder is back after missing three matches due to a knock at Anfield, putting Simeone’s XI options in motion for Mendizorroza.
Pablo Barrios, of Atlético Madrid, is back after a knock suffered at Anfield that kept him out of the side’s last three games before the international break. The injury was described as minor, and the coaching staff set up an individual plan so he would rejoin the group. As Mundo Deportivo reports, he was already back with the team last week and even played in the training match against Atlético C.
That means Diego Simeone can count on him for Saturday’s trip to Alavés at Mendizorroza (16:15). With Barrios available again, Simeone adds another key option in a midfield where competition is high, alongside players like Koke and Johnny Cardoso in strong form. The piece notes that Cardoso has been so impressive he has overtaken Hjulmand, whom Atlético signed for 40 million euros from Sporting Portugal. Koke remains a mainstay for Simeone.
Midfield depth, more choices
Since Simeone tends to prioritize those who worked with him at Majadahonda after these breaks, Barrios, Cardoso and Koke could start together in the XI versus Alavés.
