Pablo Fornals on the Barça controversy: “I tried to talk to him”
Real Betis’ midfielder is set for his first Champions League at 30, after explaining his chat with the referee following VAR issues vs Barça.
Pablo Fornals, Real Betis’ midfielder, addressed the refereeing controversy from the goal ruled out for Lo Celso against Barcelona. In his pre-match press conference, he said he tried to speak with the referee to present his arguments, but stressed that VAR and the officials’ call decide everything.
“Back then I spoke with the referee. I guess you’ve seen that I tried to talk to him and give him the explanations I thought were appropriate, but in the end he decides,” Fornals said. He added that there is someone who advises from VAR and that it is pointless to keep debating what has already happened.
Ahead of the Champions League match versus Feyenoord, the Betis man also underlined the excitement of debuting in the competition “at 30”. He referenced the atmosphere in the clash vs Porto: “The stadium got behind the team… the mosaic, the fans throughout the whole game.”
