Pep Guardiola to return to the Etihad: City vs PSG next week
The former boss will attend City’s first home match since the guilty verdict, with an appeal ongoing over the 115 charges.
Pep Guardiola, the former Manchester City manager, is expected to attend next week’s Champions League tie against Paris St-Germain. It will be City’s first home game at the Etihad since the club was found guilty of the majority of the 115 charges brought by the Premier League.
As BBC Sport reports, Guardiola hasn’t been back at the stadium since leaving at the end of last season after a decade in charge. During that run, he delivered six Premier League titles, including a record four in a row from 2020-21, plus the Champions League, three FA Cups and five League Cups.
Earlier this month, an independent commission ruled the club guilty for breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18. City continue to deny wrongdoing and have appealed the findings in the Premier League’s report, which said the club falsely inflated commercial revenues by £830m through “sham” contracts.
After the verdict, Guardiola publicly backed the club’s owners and leadership, posting online that he wants every City fan “to know I am here; more than ever”, and stating he is—and will always be—behind the club.
