Phil Foden hits a hat-trick as Man City crush AEK Athens 5-1
Manchester City notch their second Champions League win of the campaign: Foden scores three as the match ends 5-1.
Phil Foden starred with a hat-trick as Manchester City routed AEK Athens 5-1 to pick up their second Champions League victory of the campaign, as reported by Sky Sports.
Foden had gone 10 months without a goal, then broke through in style with three strikes. The hosts also coped without Erling Haaland, who was named on the bench but never came on. Enzo Maresca instead handed chances to Floyd Samba, showing the side can score even without their main man.
City’s control was evident from the start: in the first half they registered 10 efforts towards Alberto Brignoli’s goal, with other chances cutting close, including one that hit the crossbar. In the second period, Stavros Pilios pulled one back for AEK early on, but the momentum quickly returned to the home side.
