Piero Hincapié injury adds to Arsenal stress after 2-1 Leeds comeback

Arsenal won 2-1 at Emirates with Calafiori and Bruno Guimaraes on target; Hincapié was carried off clutching his right ankle.

Arsenal’s win over Leeds came with a fresh scare: Piero Hincapié was taken off during the warm-down after the 2-1 victory at the Emirates, with concern over an injury to his right ankle. The Ecuador international had been used as a late substitute, but still completed extra running after full time.

The match hinged on the turnaround. After Leeds went ahead in the 55th minute, Riccardo Calafiori equalised, and Bruno Guimaraes—scoring on his full home debut—netted the winner.

This wasn’t a one-off impact. For the second time in three Premier League games, Guimaraes came to Arsenal’s rescue, having also helped secure a 2-0 win at Sunderland in September by scoring the opener. The win lifted Mikel Arteta’s side level with Manchester City on points, even after the previous 3-0 loss at Brighton. Arteta later stressed that the gap between being “exceptional” and “extremely average” is very thin.
