Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says his meniscus injury is his first 10+ day layoff

The Deportivo forward explains his meniscus surgery and says he’s already walking without crutches, but will miss the trip to San Sebastián.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues recovering after meniscus surgery and admitted it’s “the first time in my career” that he’s been sidelined for more than ten days. Happy in La Coruña, he received Deportivo’s player-of-the-start award and explained when he realised something was wrong.

“It happened in an action from the game against Real Betis. I tried to get to the ball, lifted my leg and when I landed I already felt something was off… Mentally it was tough at the beginning,” he said. He’s now walking without crutches and says the next steps are gradual: he’s started cycling and will judge when he can return to training.

Recovery and message to the team

Aubameyang won’t be with his teammates in San Sebastián. He asked the group to “bring the points”, stressing they can win thanks to the work rate and quality. He also reflected on his positive welcome since arriving and joked about Nsongo: “he doesn’t have to feel pressure—he’s worth two forwards.”
