Pierre Sage’s Palace crash at Brighton: 5-0 after Lyon 3-2
Brighton hit three in ten minutes and ran out 5-0; it came just three days after Crystal Palace’s 3-2 loss to Lyon in Europe.
Pierre Sage walked into Sunday’s Premier League game with Crystal Palace after a tough week, and his side collapsed at Brighton: 5-0, including 3-0 inside ten minutes.
The nightmare began early. In the 4th minute, Jaydee Canvot scored an own goal. Three minutes later, Diego Gomez produced a spectacular 51-metre lob, and shortly after, Yasin Ayari effectively sealed the contest.
Brighton didn’t add again until the second half, with Charalampos Kostoulas making it 4-0 (49’), before Jack Hinshelwood capped the scoring on 84’ from a corner.
With this fourth defeat in seven Premier League matches, Palace drop back to 14th, with the possibility of slipping to 16th depending on results. RMC Sport also notes that after the midweek setback against Lyon (3-2) in the Europa League, Sage had been placed fourth in the UK bookmakers’ “sack race” at the start of the week, behind Robert De Zerbi (Tottenham), Álvaro Arbeloa (Fulham) and Michael Carrick (Manchester United).
