Pochettino includes Alex Freeman as he kicks off the next cycle
Villarreal defender Alex Freeman is called up by Mauricio Pochettino for matches versus Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada.
US head coach Mauricio Pochettino is leaning on Alex Freeman, who has been named in the squad for the upcoming matches this month and into October. As Mundo Deportivo reports, the aim is to start a new preparation phase for the 2030 World Cup.
New faces and first caps
According to the paper, out of 28 players called up, 13 were part of the World Cup held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. In addition, 11 are set to make their debuts in these games. The list includes defenders Peyton Miller, Neil Pierre and Frankie Westfield; midfielders Mathis Albert, Zavier Gozo, Adri Mehmeti and Brooklyn Raines; plus forwards Cole Campbell, Justin Ellis, Julian Hall and Cavan Sullivan.
As for the schedule, the US team will play:
- Peru: September 26, at Inter.co Stadium in Orlando.
- Chile: September 29, at Energizer Park in San Luis.
- Mexico: October 3, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
- Canada: October 6, at Allianz Field in St. Paul.
Pochettino on the “new stage”
Mundo Deportivo also highlights Pochettino’s message. He said the camp is “the beginning of a new stage for everyone” and that these early matches will combine experienced players with “young talent with high potential”. He added that everyone must understand the team’s culture and working methods and, above all, show the commitment to represent the country as their supporters deserve.
