Police officer injured during arrests after Liverpool vs Man City
Liverpool’s 3-0 win came with trouble off the pitch: Merseyside Police said 10 arrests and one serious facial injury.
A police officer suffered a serious facial injury while making an arrest after Liverpool vs Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday. Merseyside Police said the officer was taken to hospital and was recovering at home.
Police confirmed 10 arrests following the tense match. The cases included suspicions of assaulting a constable, “tragedy chanting”, being drunk and disorderly and assault, affray, and throwing items onto the pitch.
Ch Insp Leanne Hobin said it was extremely disappointing that an officer was hurt while doing the job, and that investigations into the full circumstances are ongoing. On the chanting, she stressed that the loss of life should never be used for tribal point-scoring, adding that they will work with clubs to identify those responsible.
